01 April What Do They Put In This Stuff???I used to be a pure soda pop lover. Mountain Dew was #1, Pepsi, Root Beer, heck even an occasional RC.
Mountain Dew is still king of the hill....but changes are afoot. Changes started about a year ago. Tha's when the Starbucks with a drive thru came to town. Up until then, the only Starbucks was part of the local Barnes and Noble.
I have always had a little chuckle at the fashionable coffee crowd. To me, THEY were the beanie wearing, poetry reading, and BMW/Hummer driving crowd. THEY were smug. THEY thought they were too mature to drink pop. Funny, sad, pathetic THEM.
Then it happened. While out with Mrs. WHW, she suggested going to the new one. I had absolutely no idea how to order. All they had was coffee, right? Regular or decaf were the two choices my parents had. One pot had a black spout, one had a red spout. So, as I walked up to order, I froze. A whole menu based on coffee??? What should I do?????? They don't have small, medium and large!!! Venti????? What's a venti????
Mrs. WHW, after laughing at my fear to order, jumped in and ordered me a Cappuccino. She then ordered something that I think was a coffee, but consisted of about 9 words. I remember hearing white, decaf, mocha, and low-fat. She musy have known what she was doing, since the person waiting on us nodded, wrote a few words on her cup, and asked for $8.00.
$8.00!!!??? Were we getting cake with it????? Nope. While standing at the register, I got a gentle nudge from Mrs. WHW. I learned you move down to the next station to get your drink....and its sort of the honor system there. No numbers, no standing in order....they bark out the drink and you jump in and get it.
The cappuccino was good (after adding some half-and-half and two packets of sugar). Nice part of our night out.
Fast forward 10 months to today. Something odd has happened. I find myself wanting to go there. I stop by after work, I stop on my Walmart trips, I stop on my mornings off when I take youngest son out for a Krispy Creme. I now have a Starbucks card. I am now ordering Wet Venti Cappuccinoes without being embarassed. What the heck happened????? I am part of the THEM crowd!!!!!!! To make it worse, today the lady asked me if it was wet enough.....and I knew what she was asking me!!!!!!!!!!!
I am convinced that there is something in these drinks that has taken over my mind. Something that makes me crave these drinks....and that music. I must have a pod somewhere with my name on it. Someone please help me......
On second thought, can someone please put another $20 on my card?????
Thanks. Comments (6)
